Kerala Floods Emergency Response

Deadly floods and landslides have left thousands homeless. The state of Kerala is struggling with the worst flooding in almost one hundred years. Oxfam are on the ground and responding, providing clean water and lifesaving essentials.

Oxfam India's emergency team is in Wayanad and Idukki, two of the worst affected districts in Kerala. The team has conducted an assessment, met the local administration and trained local partners to distribute humanitarian supplies.

The initial planned aid distribution includes 45,000 water purification tablets, 4000 Oxfam buckets for storing water, 2000 tarpaulins for emergency shelters and 2000 ground sheets. Access is a major challenge as only army rescue teams are currently able to access remote places and it is a challenge to find dry space for storage of relief material.
