Cyclone Amphan update

On 20 May 2020, Cyclone Amphan struck land across India's Odisha and West Bengal States and Bangladesh's Barisal Division. The storm is the first super cyclone to form in the Bay of Bengal since 1999.

Oxfam is on the ground, working with our partners to prepare communities for the ongoing storm. Together we will respond to the impact of the cyclone in both India and Bangladesh.

Oxfam in India

Oxfam first started working in India in response to the famine in Bihar in 1951. Since then the country has seen dramatic change and development, but remains home to an estimated 300 million people living in poverty. Through our sister organisation, Oxfam India, we work to help people find ways of making a secure living and ensure they have access to education and health services. We also support communities to help them cope with the impact of natural disasters.
