In Rwanda, Oxfam has helped women farmers learn new skills and earn a living growing tree tomato seedlings. Thanks to these little plants, the women have earned enough to improve their homes, install electricity and send their children to school.
Flonira, from Rwanda, is a widow and used to struggle to earn enough to support her family. But then she joined a tree tomato cooperative, supported by Oxfam. By growing seedlings, Flonira has gone on to renovate her house and grow her own tree tomato plantation. And, when her son won a scholarship to study in China, she was able to help him pursue his dream. “I paid for his flight,” she says. “I even took him to the airport and I felt really proud."
The co-op, she says, has changed women’s lives. And thanks to people like you, more families around the world will be able to earn an income during tough times.
